Friday, December 26, 2008

today.as i was slicing da pomegranate fruit
it made me think
how dis fruit was named.---pomegranate(such a unique name)
n despite for da bright red colour.wat is da benefits...
so i made an effort to find smthng bout dis lovely bright-coloured fruit.
n dis is wt i found.

da name pomegranate comes from da Latin – pomum means apple and granatus means full of seeds.
dis delicious fruit is distinctive for more than its bright red color. One of da first known medicinal fruits, pomegranates (Punica granatum L) r native to da western & southern foothills of da Himalayas n were cultivated n naturalized over da whole Middle East and Mediterranean since pre-historic times.
da tree was introduced into California by Spanish settlers in 1769, n is now grown mainly in the drier parts of California and Arizona.
da nearly round, 3" to 5" wide fruit has a reddish, tough, leathery rind, with membranous walls and white, spongy, bitter tissue packed with sacs filled with sweet acid, juicy pulp and seeds.yummy isnt it?!

till then.
xoxo
